Sheepadoodle

Varies; Mini ~30–55 lbs, Standard 60–80+ lbsHigh11–15 years lifespan

Who this breed is NOT for

Sedentary homes, first-timers wanting easy, anyone underestimating the grooming, or long-hours-away owners. A bored Sheepadoodle is a handful.

Bred to do

A cross of Old English Sheepdog and Poodle — two working breeds. Bred as a smart, fluffy family companion, but the herding drive is real.

Exercise needs

High — both parents are working dogs. Needs substantial daily exercise plus mental work, or you'll see boredom behaviors. Not a couch dog.

Temperament

Smart, playful, affectionate, sometimes goofy. Strong herding instinct — may try to herd kids and pets. Needs a busy, engaged owner.

Trainability

High — very intelligent from both sides — but that brain needs a job, or it invents mischief.

With kids & pets

Good with an active family, but watch heel-nipping/herding of running children. Early training channels it.

Living situation

Best with space and an active household. The big coat means heat sensitivity. Not suited to sedentary or long-hours-away homes.

Grooming & shedding

Big, thick, often curly coat — NOT guaranteed non-shedding and one of the higher-maintenance doodle coats. Frequent brushing and regular professional grooming are mandatory or it mats painfully.

Health & costs

Watch hip dysplasia, eye conditions, and bloat (deep-chested). Health-test both parents. Large size + heavy grooming = higher lifetime cost.

Best fit

Active, engaged owners who want a smart, fluffy, playful dog and can meet high exercise, mental-work, and grooming needs.

A note from Kerri

That fluffy panda look sells a lot of Sheepadoodles into homes that can't keep up. Underneath is two working breeds' worth of energy and a demanding coat. Great dog for the right active home — a lot of dog for the wrong one.
